AI Assistants (MCP)
CityCity can be connected to AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT. Once a traveller has connected their assistant, they can ask it about their trips and have it search and book travel, in plain language, while working under their own CityCity account.
The connection uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets an AI assistant use an application's functions in a controlled way. For CityCity it means the assistant gets a defined set of tools (view trips, search, book) and nothing else.
!!! note "Not enabled by default" The AI assistant connection is switched on per travel agency. See Setup for agencies.
What a traveller can do
- Look at their trips: "What trips do I have coming up?", "What did I book in Stockholm last spring?"
- Search and book: flights, trains, hotels, rental cars and airport taxis, with fares, extra bags and seats where the supplier offers them.
- Get help choosing: the assistant can look at the traveller's past bookings and travel policy to suggest their usual hotel, route or fare, and point out what is missing from a trip (for example a hotel for the nights away).
- Fill in cost fields: the company's cost centre or project fields are asked for and added to the booking.
See What the assistant can do for the details and the limits.
How it stays safe
- It acts as the traveller. The assistant signs in through the traveller's normal CityCity login (including multi-factor authentication) and can only see and book what that traveller can.
- Company rules still apply. Travel policy, approval requirements, mandatory cost fields and disabled online booking are all enforced. When something cannot be booked this way, the assistant is told to send the traveller to the regular booking site.
- Nothing is booked without a clear yes. The assistant first shows the itinerary and the total price, and books only after the traveller confirms.
- No card numbers in chat. Only items paid by the company's agreement or a guarantee the company has already saved can be booked.
